The Mentor Role  
- Take the lead in supporting a young person through the consistency of an ongoing, one-to-one relationship 
- Serve as a positive role model and friend 
- Build the relationship by planning and participating in activities together 
- Strive for mutual respect and good communication 
- Build self-esteem and motivation in the mentee 
- Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them 
- Assisting with monthly sessions and field trips  

Time Commitment 
- Spend a minimum of one hour per week one-to-one with a mentee, during the school year (this can be conversing with the student over the phone or in person)  
- Attend the New Mentor Training session (Beginning & End of the year)  
- Attend monthly sessions(We meet from 9:30am-12:30pm on every second saturday of the month, depending on ACT/SAT Dates the date is subject to change.), field trips, or special events(if available)  

Participant Requirements  
- Be at least 19 years old 
- Be interested in working with young people 
- Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures 
- Be willing to complete the application and screening process 
- Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments 
- Attend mentor training sessions as prescribed 
- Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff, submit activity information, and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring activities 
- Be willing to complete an annual program survey
